USC-Presbyterian Baseball Blog - Wed. 3/4

5:45 - Perfect T9 for Holmes. USC WINS 15-0. USC improves to 5-2 and now gets ready for a 3-gamne series with Clemson starting Fri.

5:40 - Great diving catch on a line drive by the PC LF ends the B8. Walker was robbed of his third hit of the game. Fr. RHP Colby Holmes is the new pitcher for USC in the T9. It's 15-0 USC.

5:35 - We're through 7.5 inn. and USC still leads 15-0. DP ended T8. Scorching line drive to 3B and doubled off runner off first. It's 15-0 USC as we go to the B8.

5:15 - Parkers Bangs worked the T7. one-out sinhgle is allPC musters. They now have two hits in the game. We go to the B7 with USC leading, 15-0.

5:00 - USC is back at it in the B6. Single by Beary, double by Morales to LF and HBP by Wingo loads the bases for Merrifield. USC has 8 doubles today. Wingo ties the school record for most career HBP (34). Grand slam for Merrifield to LF!! 2nd grand slam for USC this season. It's 15-0 USC. 16 hits. First HR of the season for Merrifield.

4:50 - Price is highly effective in the T6. Sets down PC in order on a X-4, 6-3, K. We go to the B6 with USC leading 11-0.

4:40 - Doubles by Wingo (2-fo-2) and Thomas have made it a 10-0 game in the B5. Here's Walker. Shot into RF. RF can't grab it. Run scores,. It's 11-0 USC. AShmore PH for Jones. First career plate appearance for Ashmore. P-6. 7 of USC's 13 hits today are doubles. We go to the T6 with USC leading 11-0. Matt Price is the new pitcher for USC. Belcher lasted 5 inn. and pitched very well.

4:30 - Belcher gave up his first hit of the game on a scorching grounder up the middle that Haney gloved but he couldn't hang on. 2 Ks close out the inning. Great outing so far for Belcher. 1 hit, 7 K, 1 BB. Nice control. Maybe the real Belcher is finally emerging.

4:25 - Bradley Jr. doubled with 1 out in B4 but that's it for USC in the inning. We go to the T5 with USC leading 9-0. Belcher back for the T5.

4:15 - Belcher comes back out for the T4 and retires PC in quick fashion on a F-9, K, F-9. Belcher has five K through 4 Inn. We go to the B4 with USC leading 9-0.

4:10 - USC has expanded its lead to 9-0 in B3 with another 2-out run. Christian Walker snapped his 0-for-13 streak with a RBI single to CF. Wingo scored. Inning ends on a X-5. We go to the T4 with USC leading 9-0.

4:00 - Belcher responds to the long 8-run B2 by setting down PC easily in the T3. 1-2-3. P-4, 4-3, 6-3. We go to the B3 with USC leading 8-0.

3:50 - The B2 continues here at Carolina Stadium. So far, 12 batters have come to the plate. The last 9 batters have reached base. 7 hits and 2 walks. Ebvert just lind a two-run double down the LF line to score Walker and Jones. Beary F-9. The inning is finally over. 8 RUNS by the Gamecocks. We go to the T3 with USC leading 8-0. We'll see how Belcher responds to sitting on the bench for so long.

3:45 -The 2-out magic has continued for USC in the B2. Merrifield singled, stole secodn and scored on Thomas' H&R single to left. Walker walks. Here comes the PC coach. That's it for Harmon. Jones up, the 10th batter in the inning. All 5 runs have scored with 2 outs. Bloop single into RF. Thomas scores. It's 6-0 USC. Again, all this has come with 2 outs.

3:40 - Jones leads off the B2 with a walk, his third of the season. 5-4 FC by Ebert, who beats the relay throw. Here comes Bradley Jr., his first at-bat as a starter this season. 4-6 FC. Back-to-back FC on infield grounders by USC. Beary up. He's batting .333 this season (7-for-210). There's deep drive into RCF. The ball bounces off the fence. Here comes Bradley Jr. He scores standing up. It's 1-0 USC. Haney flares one down the LF line. Fair ball! Beary scores. 2-0 USC. Wingo up. He lashe son to RF. Home run!! Ball lands in the USC bullpen. 2-run jack. It's 4-0 USC. Serious 2-out lightning by the bottom part of the order. Merrifield singles to left. 21-game hitting streak dating back to last season. Here comes the PC pitching coach.

3:20 - Belcher looks sharp inthe early going. Registered his third K for the second out of the T2. But there's a 2-out BB. Now we have a catcher's interference call on Thomas. Runners on 1&2, 2 outs. Strikeout. Nice changeup by Belcher for strike three. We go to the B2 with the score 0-0.

3:15 - USC down 1-2-3 in B1. PC starter Jesse Harmon has a 1.29 ERA in 7.0 IP so far this season. 6-3, K, 5-3 in B1. We go to the T2 with the score 0-0. Both teams down 1-2-3 in 1st.

3:10 - We're underway at Carolina Stadium. Nolan Belcher is off to a blazing start with strikeout against the first two batters. 6-3 for the third out. Good start for Belcher. We go to the B1 with the score 0-0.

2:45 - Here's how USC is ranked nationally - No. 13 by Rivals.com, No. 15 by Baseball America, No. 22 by Collegiate Baseball and no. 23 by USA Today/ESPN coaches poll. of course, the Gamecocks can take a big leap up the polls with a win WEd. v. PC and a series win over rival Clemson this weekend. In case you didn't see it, Tanner named his starters for the Clemson series: Blake Cooper on Fri., Sam Dyson on Sat in Greenville and Tyler Webb on Sunday at home. The field is being prepared. We're 15 mins away from baseball.

2:20 - Here is today's starting lineup for USC:

First start of the season for Bradley, Jr. Obviously, a good sign for USC heading into the Clemson series. Eventually, he'l bat second in the order. Enders gets the day off with Thomas starting.

2:00 - We're live from Carolina Stadium for today's USC-Presbyterian baseball game at Carolina Stadium. USC is 4-2, whiel PC is 1-6 under head coach Elton Pollock. The Blue Hose have given USC a lot of trouble over the last two years. Both meetings have been decided by a single run. Nolan Belcher will mnake his first start of the season today. He has hurled 2.0 IP with 1 BB and 4 K in two appearances. The key question is whether Belcher can throw strikes. He experienced problems with his control lasat year. Ray Tanner said earlier this week that this is a very important start for Belcher. We'll see how he does.
