3:15 - Webb sets down ECU 1-2-3 in the B8. We go to the 9th with USC trailing, 4-2. Haney leads off.

3:10 - USC scores a run on an infield single by Enders. Bases remain loaded. Tying run at 2B. Beary up. F-9 to end the inning. We go to the B8 with USC trailing, 4-2.

3:05 - Walker F-9. New pitcher for ECU. LHP. Jones walks. Bases loaded for USC. Go-ahead run at te plate. New pitcher (Seth Simmons) for ECU to face Ebert. Drama here in Greenville. 1 out. USC's bats have finally shown some life in the T8. 2-2 on Ebert. He strikesout. Ouch. 2 outs.

3:00 - Merrifield singles to open the T8. Here comes Jackie Bradley Jr. to the plate for his first plate appearance of the season. He singles to right!! USC has runners on 1&2, 0 outs in T8. Great job by Bradley. Walker up.

2:55 - 4-6-3 DP ends the B7. Webb has thrown just 24 pitches in 3.1 IP. Great outing for him. We go to the T8 with USC trailing, 4-1.

2:50 - USC has finally broken through here in the T7 with a run. With runners at 1&2, Haney hit a FC grounder (6-4) grounder to short. But a poor relay throw that skipped past the 1B allowed Ebert to score USC's first run of the game. It's 4-1 ECU as we go to the B7.

2:45 - USC could have something going here in the T7. Walk to Ebert, single to CF by Beary. Runners on 1&2, 1 out. ECU coach comes out to talk with Mincey. He just passed the 100-pitch plateau.

2:35 - Webb has faced the minimum 7 batters after replacing Neff in B4. Single, CS 2-6, F-8, and 6-3 in B6. We go to the T7 with USC trailing, 4-0. Need the bats to respond now. We're in the late innings.

2:30 - USC down 1-2-3 in T6. L-3, F-9, 4-3. Walker is now 0-for-11 in the series. Growing pains for the freshman from Pa.

2:25 - Webb makes quick work of ECU in B5. He threw just 6 pitches. 1-2-3 with 3 groundouts. 10 of 15 outs by USC infield with 4 strikeouts. We go to the T6 with ECU leading 4-0.

2:20 - Leadoff single by Haney in T5 but 3-6-3 DP erased him from the basepaths. 4-3 by Merrifield. USC needs to find some offense or they're in trouble. We go to the B5 with ECU leading, 4-0. 2 outs now in B5 with 4-3 and 6-3. Webb pitching well.

2:15 - Bizarre B4 here in Greenville. Neff walked the leadoff batter. Balk, wild pickoff throw and wild pitch plated the run. It's 4-0 ECU. Here comes Calvi. Tyler Webb is coming in. Strikeout. We go to the T5 with USC trailing, 4-0.

2:05 - 2-out walk to Enders is all USC can muster in T4. K, 5-3, K for the 3 outs. We go to the B4 with ECU leading 3-0.

1:55 - Double, HBP and sacrifice put runners at 2&3 for ECU with 1 out in B3. Neff got a 5-3 groundout to hold the runners. Big out there. He needs to get out of this with no damage. He does! 5-3. Nice escape for Neff. That could be key later. 44 pitches for Neff through 3 Inn.

1:45 - Wingo leads off T3 with a bunt single, but Merrifield called out for batter;s interference on an attempted steal. Bad break for USC. Marzilli up for the first time since he replaced Matthews. Marzilli K. Walker up. He's 0-for-9 in the series so far. 2 outs, 1 on. Make that 0-for-10 with F-9 for final out. Tough weekend for the freshman. We go to the B3 with ECU leading 3-0.

1:35 - ECU got a harmless 2-out single in B2. 4-3 to end it. All 3 outs by groundout. Neff has thrown 30 pitches through 2 Inn. Good inning there in B2. USC needs to rally here.

1:30 - USC has two batters reach on a walk (Ebert) and E4 (Beary), but couldn't score. Haney 4-3 to end it. We go to the B2 with ECU leading 3-0. 6-3 for 1st out in B2. Nice flip by Haney.

1:25 - We've been informed Adam Matthews suffered a sprained right ankle when he fell over the 1B bag runningout the grounder in the T1. He has been replaced by Evan Marzilli.

1:20 - With 1 out in B1, Neff gives up his first hit of the season afer 2.0 IP, a hard single through the hole into LF. He fans Roller. Big out there. Single to RF by Wooten, Neff will have to work out of trouble. He can't. Double down the LF line. Run scores. Runners at 2&3. It's 1-0 ECU. Bllop down the RF line. Fair ball by inches. 2 runs score. It's 3-0 ECU. Neff can't get the final out here in the B1. P-4 to end it. We go to the T2 with ECU leading 3-0.

1:05 - Merrifiled out 5-3. Matthews hits a bouncer behind 2B. great play by the ECU 2B. Matthews takes a tumble. Medical staff out to see Matthews. He's groggy coming off. We might see a change here. Walker out 5-3. He's had a tough series. 1-2-3 for USC. Marzilli to RF. We go to the B1.

1:00 - Merrifield steps into the box. We're ready to go. Game 3.

12:55 - The umpires and coaches are meeting at home plate. We're almost ready to go here at C-L Stadium. ECU SP is Brad Mincey, who was rocked last weekend by Virginia. He have up 8 hits and 6 runs in 2.2 IP.

12:20 - Here is USC's starting lineup for today's game:

Merrifield - 8
Matthews - 9
Walker - 5
Jones - DH
Ebert - 3
Enders - 2
Beary - 7
Haney - 6
Wingo - 4

P - Steven Neff (1-0, 1.2 IP, 0.00 ERA)

Matthews move sback to the No. 2 spot. Jones gets his second start at DH. Enders dropped to sixth after two hits Sat. That's mildly surprising. Wingo is batting .429 but is hitting ninth.

12:10 - USC has finished batting practice. We're about an hour from first pitch. When we spoke with Neff on Thursday, he was very excited to make his first career start. He views himself as a starter. He will be the second different Sunday starter for USC. Freshman Tyler Webb started last Sunday v. Duquesne. Will Neff be able to lock down that role? Tanner said he wanted more experience on the mound considering the expected hostile atmosphere here at C-L Stadium.

11:45 - We're live from Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, NC for the series finale between USC and East Carolina. USC won Game 1, 6-2, while ECU rallied to win Game 2, 4-3. So this is the rubber game. Steven Neff will make his first career startm for USC. He's made five career appearances to daye, all in relief. he was credited with the win last Sunday v. Duquesne. He'll be on a pitch count as well. Tanner said yestertday he'lll probebly throw 60-65 pitches. USC has plenty of other pitchers available - Webb, Bangs, Carter and Holmes. USC is taking batting practice right now. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit with the first group and appeared to swing the bat well. I don't expect him to be in the starting lineup today, however. We should be receiving the starting lineup soon.
